“What came first the dish or the pun?” I’ve been asked this existential question more than once by head-shaking loved ones colleagues and chef mentors. It’s no secret that I love groaning puns which have always found their way into my recipe development process.
Ever since I first got to work creatively in a restaurant kitchen tasked with creating an ever-changing selection of amuse-bouches and bringing the chef snacks like “France on a log” (Chartreuse-pressed celery foie gras mousse and pickled currants) to try puns have been a part of my cooking. This is my chicken-or-the-egg question.
