The other day I got on a FaceTime call and saw a raw slab of meat staring back at me. My girlfriend yelled into the speakerphone “How long do I cook this thing?” Medical professionals get calls from friends and family all the time asking for a diagnosis or “should I go to the hospital”; I get emergency calls for cooking. In order to determine the best course of action for this steak I had to ask myself a few questions. First off “Are you cooking from a recipe? Yes? So what’s the cooking time in the recipe?” It turns out my frantic girlfriend was cooking from a recipe that gave grilling times based on the thickness of the steak. I asked her how thick the steak was for her and she replied “I don’t know. This thick [pushes steak closer to camera].” I told her what I’ll tell you: “Dude get a ruler.”
